Italy adopted the European Copyright Directive
without recognizing a fair remuneration for performers for streaming music.
That’s a missed opportunity.
For more than two
years, also through the European Payperformers campaign, we have asked the Italian
institutions to implement the EU Directive recognizing a fair compensation paid
directly to performers through their collective management organisations (CMO) by
online platforms.
Italian Parliament too had asked for a change, recognizing
streaming rights to performers.
Unfortunately, the Government has made different
choices, deciding that the collection of streaming compensations still remains
placed on record producers. Nothing has changed compared to the past.
ITSRIGHT will in any case undertake to implement
immediately all the activities so that the principle that at least has been
recognized to all performers towards their record producers is implemented: to
receive a fair remuneration for streaming uses.
